Obituary
Yvonne Moore
December 31, 1848 - January 12, 2025
Yvonne Moore was born on December 31, 1948 in Greenville, Alabama to Willie Frank Moore Sr. and Clyde Turk, the second eldest of twelve siblings. She departed this life on January 12, 2025 at Jersey City Medical Center, surrounded by family.
Yvonne was educated in Greenville, Alabama before moving to Jersey City, NJ to further her education and opportunities. She obtained a certification in electronics through Job Corps, where she served as a residential aide and built lifelong friendships. Following Job Corps, over the next twenty years, Yvonne worked at Consolidated Laundries and Bel Fuse Electronics soldering television transistors, until their respective closures. She spent the latter part of her working years as a U.S. Postal Service mail carrier, transitioning to providing childcare, a job she found rewarding and fulfilling. Those same children, many of whom are now adults, still affectionately call her “Grandma” and “Ma,” a testament to the deep bonds she built.
Funny, empathetic, non-judgmental but blunt, Yvonne would tell it like it is, but always with love and a supportive hug to anyone who needed it. She was a helper who made everyone feel like family. Yvonne was also pleasantly and surprisingly random – she loved Westerns, spoke conversational Spanish, and sang DMX’s “Up in Here” as a rallying cry any time a situation got out of control. To know Yvonne was to love her, and more importantly, to feel loved.
Yvonne is survived by her daughter, Angela (Diawad) Moore-Soumah; granddaughter Saleema (Suzanne) GellerMoore; great granddaughters Saylah and Ani GellerMoore; siblings Willie Nell Thompson, Diane Peters, Hope Wilkerson, Robert Moore, Donald Pendleton, and Travis Wilkerson; three nephews and niece with whom she shared a deep bond, and extended relatives. She is preceded in death by her parents, Clyde Turk and Willie Frank Moore Sr.; siblings Charles El Turk, Eddie Lee Turk, Willie Frank Moore Jr., Shirley Ann Jackson (nee Turk), Mack Moore, and Shirley Ann Moore Watson.
Yvonne lived a full life. Her legacy lives on in the lives she touched, the memories she created, and the lessons she imparted.
