Stanley Dawson

Stanley Dawson, the eldest of two, was born 1950-07-24 in Jersey City, New Jersey to Naomi Gist and Johnny Dawson. He passed away at home on 2024-06-11 in East Orange, New Jersey.

Stanley received his education through Jersey City Public School system and later earned an associate degree in Public Policy from Saint Peter's University. He retired from the New Jersey Motor Vehicle Commission after completing 15 years of service as a Registration, License and Titles Clerk, and 10 years as a Driver and Crew Leader with the Jersey City Incinerator Authority.

Stanley was more commonly known as “Duce” by his peers. He enjoyed fashion, design and modeling. Duce was known to be very stylish. He was always color coordinated from head to toe, including coats, hats, scarves, ties, pocket squares, etc. On any given day, you could find him at home, after a long day, watching boxing or his favorite Westerns. He loved Chess and always had a chess set available to play, as well as, a set where he would occasionally play against himself.

Stanley was preceded in death by his beloved Grandmother – Vera Duncan-Gist-Williams of Jersey City (d. Jan 1990), Father – Johnny Dawson (unknown), Mother – Naomi Gist of Jersey City (d. Aug 1955), Brother - Corey “CoCo” Dawson of Jersey City (d. May 2015) and Beloved Uncle - James “Dap” Gist (d. Jan 2005). Stanley is survived by his Daughter – Karla Perkins of Jersey City, NJ, Daughter – Tamara Dawson of Raleigh, NC; Son – Dashard Dawson of Clayton, NC (Delicia); Granddaughters – Jasmine, Zahria and Alyssah (All of NJ), Grandsons – Dorian of NC and Marlon of NJ; and his closest Cousin - Lydia Rivers of Newark, Delaware.

There have been countless friends, colleagues and acquaintances that have expressed their love and admiration for him as well. Stanley Dawson, the “coolest” person in any room! Beloved Son, Brother, Father and Grandfather, as well as, Uncle and Cousin.
