Shirfield Jackson Obituary

Shirfield Jackson was born on July 25, 1929 in Valdosta Ga. and transitioned from this world on August 24, 2020. He was the 2nd of 9 children of Alathea Jackson and Edmond Alderman who preceded him in death. Five of his 8 siblings also preceded him in death.(Rayfield Jackson , Idella Mcdoward, Edmond Alderman, Corine Allen and Hugh Alderman) At the age of 7 Shirfield and his family moved to Hugh Florida and at the age of 11 they returned back to Florida where they settled down in Jacksonville. As a youth Shirfield enjoyed football and even played the saxophone. Shirfield spent the remainder of his youth in Jacksonville until he left for the army in 1947 at the age of 18. After serving 2 years in WW2 Shirfield returned home to Jacksonville and soon moved to New York while he was still in his early 20s. For the next 15 years Shirfield worked in the fields of landscaping and construction to make a living. During this time He met and had a long time relationship with Bessie Mccollins. From this relationship 5 children were born; Shirfield Jr, Andrew, Barbara Ann, Ernest James (predeceased) and Carol Jackson.

In his early 40s Shirfield moved to Jersey City NJ. In 1983 He met Deborah Harrison. After a two year courtship they were united in holy matrimony in 1985. Shirfield immediately became affectionately known as Papa to her 3 daughters Rochelle, Francis and Crystal. Through that union their daughter Stephanie was born in 1987. Shirfield was a loving and dedicated husband to Deborah until her death in 2014. Shirfield was not only a dedicated family man but he was also a dedicated employee. He worked at Van Leer Chocolate Factory until his retirement in 1992 at the age of 63. At that time Shirfield returned to Pennsylvania where he remained until Deborah's passing. He then made his final move to Jersey City NJ where he was welcomed with open arms into the home of his stepdaughter Rochelle and her family.
