Samantha Lewars Obituary

In Loving Memory of Samantha Lewars

Samantha Khadine Lacresha Lewars affectionately called “Sammy” and as a child “Puggie”, was born in Kingston, Jamaica on August 30, 1980. As a toddler she attended Jamona Basic School and later Maxfield Primary School. In 1992 Sammy and her younger sister Semedene received the opportunity to migrate to New York where they both began a new chapter of their lives living with their Aunt, Norma Stewart.

Upon arrival in New York, Sammy resided in Brooklyn and later the Bronx until her passing. Sammy attended Roy H Mann Jr High, Erasmus Hall High School and also received an Associate Degree of Ministry in Biblical Studies from The Bible Church of Christ Theological Institute. Sammy was an active member of The Bible Church of Christ where she won many awards for her studies. As a teen, we began to discover that Sammy was a very special person. We noticed that she had a love for many things but most importantly, she had an unmeasurable love for God and her family. There were times when Sammy would not be in agreement with a conversation and she would simply reply “God don’t like ugly”. If you had a discussion with Sammy on the phone and it didn’t end well, rest assured Sammy was going to call back shortly to say something positive or bring up another topic, and it would seems like the previous conversation never happened. Often times if you were looking for Sammy, you would find her listening to gospel music through her headphones.

Her favorite meal was Rice and Peas with Oxtails. She also loved Deborah’s baked Ziti. Her favorite colors were pink and purple and she loved wearing costume jewelry. Loving her family was something she did best. Sammy remembers everyone’s birthday and would call to wish them the same. She loved reading the word of God and her favorite passage of the bible was Psalms 91. She was also a prayer warrior and would pray for all no matter what the situation was. Sammy enjoyed watching horror movies, but if the movie was too scary she would turn it off quickly.

Sammy had the memory of an Elephant which is a trait of her deceased mother Lovett Henry-Lewars aka Hearnica . If you can’t remember something, just check with Sammy.  There was a special saying she would say to her sister Semedene, “I love you but God loves you better”. As a woman of God Sammy was humble, loving and forgiving but she also had a mouth on her. If you messed with her, she would fight back using the scriptures.

While Sammy is gone, her memories and the missionary work she did here on earth will forever remain in our hearts. We are reminded of Muhammad Ali when he said” Service to others is the rent we pay here on Earth”. On July 7, 2020 Sammy received her final receipt marked paid in full and went home to be with the lord.

As the news of Samantha’s passing spread, many of her family members wondered or questioned, why did she have to go at such a young age? It was then we realized that God picks his most beautiful flowers from the garden. While we were not ready for Samantha to depart this life, God saw that she was one of his brightest stars here on earth and decided to call her home showing yet again that only the good die young.

Samantha is preceded in death by her mother Lovett Lewars Henry whom she loved very much, so we know, she won’t cross Jordan alone. Left to mourn her loss are, her sister Semedene, Elder Alice Jones her mentor and spiritual mother, her father Leon, aunts, uncles, cousins, in laws, her church family and a host of other relatives and friends. We may not Lord thy purpose see, but all is well that’s done by thee. Rest in Peace beloved, sleep on and take your rest.
