Sam Walker Barrett, Jr.

Sam W. Barrett, Jr. known fondly as "Doc" passed on Saturday, February 22, 2020 at Beth Israel Medical Center, Newark, NJ. Sam was born to Sam and Augustine Barrett on May 23, 1945 in Montgomery, WV  and was the 3rd eldest of ten children.  

After graduating High School Sam joined the United States Marine Corps at the age of 18 where he proudly served for four years, including one year during the Vietnam War, and ended his military duty as a Corporal at Camp Lejeune, N.C. Following his 4-year Tour of Duty Sam met and married his lovely wife Sarah of 44 years in Newark, NJ. Sam enjoyed many things in life. he had many hobbies. During his free time at his leisure he did many, many things included bowling, fishing, traveling and casinos.

Sam was employed as a Correction Officer for the State of New Jersey for the last 25 years and retired as a Senior Correction Officer in 2012. 

Sam loved his wife, children and beloved grandchildren.  He is survived by his devoted wife Sarah; his sisters Thelma Jones-OH, Mary Barrett-OH, Diann Barrett-NC; his brothers Larry Barrett-OH, Herbert Barrett-OH; three sons, Kenneth Hak (Keshia) Dail-PA, Samuel (Robin) Barrett-NJ, Mark (Rona) Barrett-PA; two daughters, Francina (Timothy) Weems-VA, Tonya Daughtry-NJ; nine grandchildren, Najah, Jaykwon, Ayyub, Jalen, Charity, Anora, Pryde, Ibrahim, Taylor; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins  and friends.
