Paul Lee Johnson
February 14, 1951 – February 20, 2026
Paul Lee Johnson, a cherished member of the Jersey City community, passed away peacefully on February 20, 2026, at the age of 75. Born on February 14, 1951, in Atmore, Alabama. Paul lived a life rich in experiences and profound connections, leaving a lasting impact on all who knew him. He was the beloved son of Lucille Bernice Johnson and Paul Lee Johnson, Sr., and the grandson of Rosanna and Rafa Johnson.
Paul shared his life with his loving companion, Annette Hairston, and was a devoted stepfather to Darrell and Roy Hairston. He was blessed with three granddaughters, Alexis (Levone), Madasia, and Zori, and two great-grandchildren, Liam and Avery, who brought immense joy to his life. His siblings included his late brothers Ford Lee Johnson, Johnny Jerome Johnson, Kenneth Wayne Johnson, and Carl Lee Johnson, as well as his surviving siblings Augustine Williams (James, deceased), Brenda Boyd (Jim), Judith Lawerence (Woody), Paulette Johnson Wynn, Beverly Filbert (Desmond), and brother Sylvester Johnson (Bonni).
Paul leaves behind a host of nieces and nephews who will carry forward his spirit of resilience and love.
He attended Escambia County Training School and later dedicated 25 years to his work as a longshoreman at the ILA in Port Newark Terminal Authority, excelling as a crane operator.
Paul was a laid-back soul who loved fishing, known for playing pool, smoking, drinking a cold one, and cussing; traits that endeared him to those who truly knew him. He had a knack for making people laugh without trying and was a one-of-kind presence. While he enjoyed watching sports and cooking a good southern meal, Paul represented the qualities of a strong, hardworking man. His life was testament to the power of perseverance and the importance of family.
