Theron's Story
With profound sadness and heavy hearts, we announce that Theron “Theo” Kelly age 59, has passed away on July 2, 2025. A native of Newark, New Jersey who resided in Jersey City, New Jersey and proudly called it home for 30 years. He was a retired police officer of Fort Lee for 27 years, where he dedicated his time to protecting and serving his community with dignity, honor, and respect. The past four years he resided in Union Township under the care of his family.
Theron was born on July 26, 1965 in Newark to parents Robert and Maggie Kelly. During his childhood he was raised by his mother Maggie alongside his sister Michelle. He attended St. Lucy’s Academy and graduated from Science High School in Newark. He would go on to attend Rutgers University and joining the U.S. Army in 1987.
In 1991, he became a father to his daughter Nikita to whom he loved and adored. He found joy in the simple pleasures of life, such as watching football, Star Trek, going to the movies, and spending time with his family. He loved traveling to New York City and Philadelphia where he would go out to eat and admire the scenery.
Above all else, he cherished animals, especially his two rescued cats Echo and Kashi. As a beloved son, father, and grandfather he will be missed. His beautiful smile and sense of humor will be remembered. His memory will live on in our hearts and to those who had the privilege of knowing him.
