On Thursday, February 14th 2019 an angel took Elizabeth White by the hand and led her to her final rest to suffer no more.
Queen Elizabeth Victoria Freshwater-White life’s journey began on August 20, 1929 in Elizabeth City, North Carolina born to Theodore and Nellie Freshwater. She was the 21st child of 22.
She attended P.W. Moore School in Elizabeth City, North Carolina.
Elizabeth married George J. White Sr. on September 14, 1947 in Elizabeth City, North Carolina and was wedded for 56 years.
She worked as a cook at the Virginia Dare Hotel in Elizabeth City, North Carolina.
She raised and took care of numerous children that up to this day still call her “Ma” in North Carolina and Jersey City.
Elizabeth loved cooking, sewing, and making pillows & blankets (You couldn’t leave your clothing lying around because she would make a pillow out of it in a minute).
Elizabeth was preceded in death by her husband, George J. White Sr. and 20 siblings
Elizabeth leaves to cherish her memory: two daughters, Joyce White-Massey and Lena White-Moore (Carleton); two sons, George J. White Jr. (Lillian) and Aaron S. White (Troylene); all of Jersey City, NJ; Nine grandchildren Eight great-grandchildren and 4 great-great grandchildren One surviving sister, Dorothy Freshwater-Simpson; two Goddaughters, Rosa Overton and Stacey Simmons; Godson, Kenneth Grant; two sisters-in-law, Juanita White and Ethel Colbert. A host of nieces and nephews and special home health aides, Yolande Exantus and Marrilyn Moore.
