                      Missionary Joanne Knight

“And God shall wipe away all tears from their eyes and there shall be no more death, neither sorrow, nor crying, neither shall there be any more pain; for the former things are passed away.”

Joanne Knight beloved daughter of the late Elder Russell Knight and Evangelist Missionary Anna Knight born July 27, 1949, transitioned from earth to her heavenly home May 2, 2022.

Joanne graduated S.A. Roberson Elementary and Bayonne High Schools. She enrolled in the Bayonne Practical Nursing Program and received her license as a Practical Nurse. Joanne served her community for forty years at Bayonne Hospital.

Joanne was raised from birth in the Church of God In Christ under the spiritual direction of her late grandfather, Reverend Gabe Purnell and her late dad, Elder Russell Knight.

She began her work for the Lord at a very early age. Her youthful involvement in the church activities lead her to become Sunday School Teacher, Pastor’s Secretary, and Purity Class, Sunshine Band and Junior Boys League president in her local church. Joanne was appointed Northern State President of the Purity Class and Sunshine Band of the First Jurisdiction Of The Church of God In Christ. Later she became State President of the Purity Class serving in this capacity until her demise.

Blessed with a beautiful voice, she sung in the choir all her life and also served 56 years as Choir Director of for Purnell Temple C.O.G.I.C. Also, Joanne used her gift to organize of the District Choir, presently known as the Porter Memorial District Choir.

Her love for the Lord caused Joanne to reach out in many other areas such as: Way & Means President of the Porter Memorial District, Youth Program Committee Director, Building Fund Raiser, Nurses Unit Advisor, Housing Committee member and spearheaded renovation projects in Purnell Temple.

Joanne loved to shop and wear fine clothes both of which she did increasingly well while sharing the effort with others. Joanne was a member of the Bayonne NAACP, and a 1993 recipient of the Church Service Award and also a member of the National Action Network.

Missionary Joanne Knight an anointed speaker dedicated her life to the service our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. She is predeceased by her father Elder Russell Knight and her brother Eric Knight. She leaves to cherish her memory: Mother Evangelist Missionary Anna Knight; two sisters Missionary Sheila Knight Conteh, Desiree Knight, two brothers and Sister In Laws, Dana (Cheryl) and Purnell (Sinai) Knight; A loving uncle, Gabe Purnell; Nephews Nelson, Purnell Jr, Nyell; Nieces Danisha, Lanisha (Ermis); Great Nieces: Elysia, Ellana and Aranely; God Children Robin Bonner, Marylyn Ford, Allen Griffin, Wheeler Young, Brandee Evans, Lanisha Arman, Nyell Knight and a host of many loving cousins and dear friends.
