Mary Davis Obituary

Mary A. Davis Carlisle was born on October 14, 1966, in Jersey City, to the late Lydia A. Davis and James Davis. Mary A. Davis was the 5th child born out of 11 children. She grew up in Marion Gardens under the guidance of Pastor Lydia Ann Davis. Mary was family oriented and enjoyed time with her brothers and sisters growing up. Mary loved music, fashion, arts and crafts; most importantly she loved to help people. Her love for God became recognized following in the footsteps of her late mother. In her early years of faith, Mary attended Good News Bible Mission in Jersey City under the leadership of Pastor Erwin Lanier. She was an exceptional music choir director, and choir member of the Missionettes.

Mary loved her children and dedicated her time working over the years to take care of her children. Mary worked at the Bus Company during the day, and the U.S. Postal Service overnight. Mary is a great mother that sacrificed so much for her children. She often pushed her children as they attended school. She would tell her children daily “You better not come home with anything less than a B.” “I want you guys to do better than me.” Mary was known for her compassion for helping others dealing with many people at work, church, friends and family. She often moved people into her home when they were in need. Mary’s good deeds has not gone unrecognized, and we celebrate her today. Her children were a major part of her life, as she instilled the word of God into their lives at an early age. Teaching her children, the gospel of truth, morals, and values in life.

Mary’s childhood friends are more like family to her, as they called each other sisters. Her friends include Lori Morris, Esther Choice, Lisa Battle, Bernadette Garnes, and Debra Tyler. Friends in ministry Mother Frazier, Evangelist Epps, Elder Brown, Apostle Speaks. Inspired to better herself Mary finished high school graduating top of her class form Liberty Adult High school in Jersey City. Soon after Mary attended Hudson County Community College in 2007 and graduated two years later in Early Childhood Education, receiving her Associates of Arts degree. She worked in the Jersey City Public School system as an Assistant Teacher in Early Childhood education for 7 years before becoming a cook and then Kitchen manager for the Food Service Department. Mary has made friends with her co-workers and have taken pride in working with them.

She met her friend and soon became her husband, Earl Carlisle in 2007. They married in May of 2009 and been married since. Earl and Mary are two pillars that came from different backgrounds of faith, but they shared a common goal for their love of God. Earl is her devoted husband to Mary and loved to cook for the family.

Mary devoted her life over to God at an early age and been in service under the non-denominational leadership of Apostle Joel D. Rudolph. Grooming herself in leadership Mary was known for fasting, reading the bible consistently and applying it to her life daily. She began her calling as an evangelist in the early 2000’s. Mary has collaborated in partnership over the years with ministries in New Jersey and New York area, that includes partners in faith Apostle Stackhouse, Pastor Isaiah Graham, Apostle Teresa Speaks, Pastor Chris Brown and Pastor Jonell Frazier. Soon becoming a prophetess Mary continued to walk in her calling doing the work of God through ministering the gospel.  Exerting a Christian-like character, most people loved Mary. The King James Version of Matthew 7:15 “A good tree cannot bring forth evil fruit; neither can a corrupt tree bring forth good fruit. Wherefore by their fruits ye shall know them.” Mary is that good tree that bared good fruit.

Mary’s favorite artists include Fred Hammond, Marvin Sapp, Mary Mary, Yolanda Adams, Lashun Pace, Vickie Winans, Mighty Clouds of Joy, and Donnie McClurkin. She loved gospel music and you’d often hear her playing her music loudly and singing in worship daily. She’d do this as she crafted her arts, designed center pieces, style lap cloths (for women in the church), and for planned events/ birthday parties. Mary was heavily involved as clergy serving in her home church as she diligently followed leadership.

Mary departed this world on October 25, 2022. She joins her late mother Pastor Lydia Ann Davis, her late father James Davis, her sisters, Brenda K., Florence, and Linda Davis. She leaves behind her children Lydia, Samantha, Michael, Vanessia, and Marcus Davis. Her grandchildren Elisha C. Davis, Sa’mya M. Davis, Zion K. Mair, Ja’Dasia S. Davis, Israel and Azariyah White.
