Marie Rivers Jones

Marie Rivers Jones, born July 4th, 1935, to Walter Rivers and Maggie Rivers in Jersey City, New Jersey. She was a lifelong resident of Jersey City, New Jersey until she passed peacefully on Monday, December 6, 2021, in North Bergan, New Jersey.

Marie was educated through the Jersey City Public School System where she mastered in typing and shorthand writing.

Marie met Edward M. Jones Jr. where he won her heart and they married June 19, 1954.  And, within this union 6 children were born.
Marie worked at Western Electric in Kearny, New Jersey for several years.  She later went on to the do the greatest job of all babysitting giving nothing but love to her nieces, nephews, and other children in the community.  She also worked for Visiting Home Nurses where she retired.  She touched many lives and families as visiting a home nurse.  There were two families she adored, The Jordan’s of Jersey City, New Jersey, and the Migliaccio’s of Bayonne, New Jersey.

She was introduced to church early where she was a member of Salem Baptist Church. Later on, she became a member of the Friendship Lodge Chapter #44 where she served as an Eastern Star and rose to the rank of a Past Worthy Matron.  

Marie also known as Aunt Marie or Mrs. Jones loved children.  She was an excellent baker where she mastered making 7-up cake and rainbow cake.  She had a green thumb when it came to flowers and plants.  She enjoyed sitting in the living room admiring her plants hanging from the ceiling.  She loved family.  She was always ready for her birthday party/cook outs each year.  She would light up seeing the different faces who would attend her parties.  She loved sitting on the porch with her Bae watching her grandchildren and neighborhood kids play.  She always left you with a kind word or some form of inspiration with her favorite sayings, “Thank you for your sharing and caring” and also, “Don’t give up and don’t give out.”

Marie is preceded in death by her parents, Walter and Maggie Rivers, the love of her life for 64 years Edward M. Jones Jr., her daughters, Carlina Jones, and Valerie Ashley-Jones, her aunts Carrie, Alice and Elizabeth. Her uncles William, James, Arthur and Ernest, her girlfriends, Phyllis Graham, and Beatrice Jordan.

She leaves to cherish her precious memory her sons, Victor, Gregory and Richard Jones, her baby girl, Karen Jones, her grandchildren whom she adored, Kierra Jones, Richard Jones Jr, Devon Stevens, Hasaan Smith (Chrys), Raekwon Jones, Charmayne Ashley, Lamar Jones (Navaya), Anastasia Jones, Donte Jones, Qwan Fox Jr. and Elijah Jones. Her great grandchildren, Richard Jones III, Devon Stevens Jr., Jubilee Smith, Alexis Stevens, Aaliyah Jones, Brielle Jones and Ah’sai Jones.  Her godson, Gerome Jordan and a host of nieces, nephews, and friends.
