Larry Johnson was born on February 28, 1943, in Claxton, GA to Gussie Mae Johnson and Moses Johnson. On Tuesday, March 30, 2021, in Jersey City, NJ, he made his transition from his earthly body and went to live on with his Heavenly Father.
Larry received his formal education from Evans County Elementary School and graduated from Tattnall County High School in 1962 in Claxton, GA. He moved to Jersey City, NJ in 1967 where shortly after he married Rosa Johnson and they shared a lifelong 53 years of marriage. Larry spent the majority of his career as a Truck Driver for Garden State Trucking in Bayonne, NJ and Carlstadt, NJ. Closer to retirement, he worked in Maintenance for The Jersey City Housing Authority in Jersey City, NJ until he retired in 2007.
Larry was a loving and kind hearted husband and such a giving and caring father and grandfather. He was a quiet, humble, hardworking and laid back man. There was nothing he wouldn’t do for his family. He was a great provider, teacher and listener. He found a way to make sure the family was always taken care of and had everything they needed. He lived a wonderful life with no regrets. He worked very hard, and played very hard. He enjoyed sitting back watching TV. He loved basketball, football and baseball, or old black and white Western movies. He appreciated a great work life balance. He loved to relax and reveled in thoroughly reading the newspaper for hours almost every day.
Larry leaves to cherish his treasured memories to his adoring wife Rosa Johnson, children James Johnson (Pamela Benjamin), Leon Johnson (Renee Anderson), Yolanda Johnson (Alvis Rivera), Sarena Johnson, & Larry Johnson Jr. (Elizabeth Pimentel-Johnson). Grandchildren; Deon, Tiara, TyAsia, Tariq, Tyrese, Eleeze, Sasha, Shyteonna, Shytavion, Cedronica, Miguel & Roberto. Great Grandchildren; Razel & Razhir. Larry is also survived by his loving Sisters Ruby Dell Slater (the late, Felton Slater), Willie Mae Wilson (Moses Wilson), Dorothy Butler (Albert Butler), Betty Smith (the late Earnest Lee Smith). His Brother, Johnny Johnson. He is preceded in death by his parents, Moses and Gussie Mae Johnson, His brother Sylvester Johnson, and waiting with open arms his sweet daughter Yvonne Sanders-Johnson (the late Bobby Lee Sanders Jr.) A host of cousins, nieces, nephews and other family and friends.
Larry was loved by so many and touched so many with his acts of kindness and helpfulness. He will forever be missed but his lessons in life, kindness, thoughtfulness, respect, dignity and manhood will live on through his children and grandchildren.
