Joyce Garvin

Reflection of life

Joyce Juanita Garvin was born to Margaret and Fred Williams, on June 10, 1937. Joyce was one of 15 children 

Joyce was educated in Jersey City Public Schools then later employed as a nurse, serving at Jersey City Medical Center, Meadowview and Christ Hospital.

She was united in holy matrimony to Eddie Garvin May 28, 1955.  That union produced five children, Michael, Donald, Linda, Kathy and Patricia.

Through the years Joyce received many honors, citations and a 2009 proclamation from Jersey City Mayor Jeremiah Healy for her volunteer work and her contributions to the community.  Her efforts and spirit of volunteerism was also recognized by New Jersey Governor Jon Corzine in 2009. 

Her desire to help and serve was second nature.  Joyce spent countless hours giving of herself, expecting or seeking nothing in return.  We remember and celebrate her bold but modest disposition.

But it wasn’t all work…Joyce was always on the move as a senior.  Joyce loved spending time with family, friends, and her children.

 She is mostly known for having the latest purses, incredible fashion sense, and love for Atlantic City, her favor stores and.  One thing for sure, Joyce will be dearly missed by everyone. 

At one point her kids insisted she get a cell phone just so they could keep up with her whereabouts.

Her ideal of a perfect day was whenever God allowed her to see another sunrise.

Joyce Garvin entered into eternal rest in the evening of January 15th,  2022 at Bayonne Hospital in Bayonne, New Jersey.

She was proceeded in death by her parents, and her first born son Michael, four brothers Leroy, Robert, Samuel and Sterling Williams. Two sisters Brenda Simpson, and Gloria Robertson.

She leaves to cherish her memory seven sisters, Evon Blair, Arlene French, Beverly Williams, Alice Hatcher, Carolyn Baker, Deborah Levine and Margret Williams;  four children, two  daughter’s in law,  Rebecca Garvin and Shirley Garvin; a son in law Keith Moore. 15  grand children, 28 great grand children (she called all of her children, her grands, and great grand her “little darlings”); A host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
