Joseph “ BIG CHIEF “ McCullough was born February 20th 1937 in Kingstree, South Carolina to the late Samuel Wilson and Jannette McCullough .Joseph was the 5th out of 10 children blessed to the union. Joseph started his education in Kingstree, South Carolina before moving with his sister to Philadelphia, Pennsylvania 1951 where he furthered his education. He later moved to Jersey City, New Jersey at the age of 21. He began his life long career working at Hudson Iron Company in Bayonne NJ where he worked for many years until retirement. He later met and married his loving late wife Merrill N Jackson-McCullough.
Joseph was a loving husband and Father to his 9 children. He was a man that would help anyone in need, but poppa ain’t take no mess. He always stated “ stand for something or you will fall for anything. Joseph was big NY Mets fans, and his all time favorite singers was BB King, Chubby Checker, Ray Charles and his #1 James Brown.
Joseph was an exceptional, one of a kind man. He was a role model and a father figure to not only his kids, but all the young men and women that came years after him.
He was preceded in death by his Father Samuel Wilson, his mother Jannette McCullough, Wife Merrill McCullough his siblings Reatha , Bell, Alma, Lillie, Raymond, Rena , Samuel jr and James Wilson. His kids Willie McCullough and Lavella Jackson and Son’s in-law James Brown and Marfece (Mark) Couch.
He leaves to cherish his love, his memories, his children. Celia McCullough-Brown, Jannette Jackson-Couch, Sharee Wilkerson, Anthony Jackson (Kala), Dorothy Jackson-McLean, Charles And Marvin Jackson and his last and only serving sibling Francina (Cena) Wilson, and a host of Grandchildren, Great Grandchildren and Great-Great grandchildren as will as Nieces, Nephews, in-laws, cousins and friends. Joseph McCullough will be missed by so many, and forever dearly in our hearts.
