James Lewis Obituary

James Lewis called home on this day, November 28, 2022. He was a native of Lake City, South Carolina, before moving to Jersey City, New Jersey, in 1960.James was Born on November 14, 1949, to the late Flora and Weldon Lewis. He was one of eight children.

James Served in the National Guard for many years. He was in the gospel group in the 60S called the Gospel Violnaires, playing drums and guitar. Later, He had a construction Family business with his brothers. He was Employed at Geland Construction company and Brick Face and stucco Construction.

After his past endeavors, James and Martha lewis fell in love in 1966. They wed in 1968, Soon after having five children Maurice Darnel, Philip, Tasha, Corey, and April. 18 Grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren.

James loved family time with his children, grands, great-grands, nieces, cousins, and friends. He enjoyed watching wrestling and sports with his kids was one of his favorite pastimes. He also enjoyed fixing things and playing card games, watching sports and movies.

James was a great neighbor and friend at his home, the Ocean Towers. He was always helping with running errands for others playing cards and being a great listener. He was always there for people and always lending a helping hand.

James had a great talent for playing the guitar and drums. His son Darnel Maurice Lewis inherited the musical talent of his father. He was excellent with construction including electrical, plumbing, masonry and carpentry. His sons Philip and Corey Lewis has the hands to fix anything just liek their dad.He was a jack of all trade. 

James was such a cool person. He was very active. He pleasured in the company of others. Yes, he was a singer and a dancer in his own right. He always was a sharp dressers to which he passed down his fashion skills to his family members. Needless to say, James will genuinely  be missed by his family, friends and neighbors.

James leaves to cherish  a life well lived, his wife, Martha Ann Lewis; five children, Darnel, Philip, Tasha, Corey, and April; Son in Law, Richard Mullins; 18 grandchildren,

13 great-grandchildren and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, Ocean Towers family and friends.
