Emmett’s Story

Emmett “Darnell” Brooks, 26, of South Charleston, West Virginia, passed away unexpectedly, leaving behind a legacy of love, laughter, and unwavering spirit. Born on November 29, 1998, Darnell lived a life full of purpose, passion, and joy.

He is survived and lovingly remembered by his mother, Kristina Brooks; his father, Mike Brooks (Michelle); his sister, Denisha Brooks; his two uncles, Rick Mallory and Derek Darnell Brooks; his grandparents, Rick and Kim Mallory and his great grandmother JoAnn Mallory. He also leaves behind a host of cherished aunts, cousins, and dear friends whose lives he touched so profoundly.

A gifted athlete from a young age, Darnell proudly represented George Washington High School on the football field, where his talent and determination shone brightly. His hard work and dedication earned him a scholarship to Concord University, where he continued to pursue his passion and touched countless lives with his infectious energy and big heart.

Darnell was the kind of person who never met a stranger. He lived life to the fullest. Whether cheering from the stands at Yankee Stadium, Madison Square Garden, or rooting on his beloved Steelers at Acrisure Stadium, he brought joy and light to every space he entered. His enthusiasm for life, sports, music and connection was unmatched. Those who knew him were blessed by his unwavering optimism and ability to lift others up, often with nothing more than his smile and kind words.

Darnell was baptized and raised at Southridge Church, where his celebration of life will be held on Saturday, July 26, 2025. Visitation will take place from 11:00 AM to 12:00 PM, followed by the service beginning at noon at Southridge Church, 100 Eagle Drive, South Charleston, WV

Though his time on earth was far too short, Darnell lived each day with purpose, heart, and an unshakable love for others. His memory will live on in the hearts of all who knew and loved him.
