Elder Carlton Porter, Sr. Obituary

                                 OBITUARY

Carlton D. Porter, Sr. went home to be with the Lord on April 20, 2022 at Cooper Hospital at the age of 62 years old due to declining health.

Elder Carlton D. Porter, Sr. was born October 1, 1959, in Jersey City, New Jersey to God-Fearing Parents, Pastor Nathaniel W. Sr. and the Late Narcissus F. Porter.

Carlton was saved at a very young age. He was a member of Gospel Temple Church of God In Christ (COGIC), Jersey City, New Jersey, Memorial COGIC, Haverford, Pennsylvania and presently Porter Memorial COGIC, Jersey City, New Jersey. He was an Associate Minister at Memorial Church of God In Christ, Haverford, Pennsylvania. He was appointed Assistant Pastor at Porter Memorial Church of God In Christ, Jersey City, New Jersey where he assisted his Father, Nathaniel W. Porter, Sr. until his demise.

Carlton graduated from Delran High School in 1977. He attended Glassboro State College/Rowan University from 1979 to 1982 where he received three Associate of Science Degrees then a Bachelor of Science Degree in 1982.

He then enlisted into the United States Army in 1986 and received an Honorable Discharge in 1991 with Good Conduct Medal, National Defense Medal, Overseas Service Ribbon/Expert Marksmanship Badge and other Medals and Declarations. He was a Desert Storm Vet.

He was the 2nd of three sons from the union of Nathaniel W. Sr. and the Late Narcissus F. Porter. Carlton was married to the Late Brenda Porter and from that union, son Carlton D. Porter, Jr. (“CJ”) was born; Carlton then remarried in 1998 to Karen Goldsboro Porter, stepfather of son Kitwan “Ka” Goldsboro-Woodard.

Carlton developed a disease called Scleroderma in 2004. Scleroderma affects the collagen that leads to thickening and tightening of skin, affects internal organs, including heart, kidneys, lungs, GI tract, esophageal, causes acid reflux, decrease mobility, dilation of capillaries, etc. as well as Raynaud’s and Gerd. Carlton fought a good fight, he tried to beat the disease by staying on top of treatments, taking multiple medications and vitamins. Scleroderma is a uncurable disease. He battled mentally, physically, and spiritually for many years. We salute you for being not only strong and brave at Desert Storm, but strong and brave dealing with your health issues.

Carlton was a member of the Wrecking Crew at Memorial COGIC. He sang on the Choir and served as a Substitute Sunday School Teacher during his teenage years.

Carlton loved to talk, and he could talk for hours. He loved to talk about sports, his wife and family always said he could’ve been a sports commentator because he had the gift to gab. He loved the EAGLES and 76ers. He loved listening to Jazz. He loved taking vacations with his wife and parents to Florida and on Cruises. He often texted a group about the weather, world events, whatever happened on the news, you were sure to get a text from Carlton until you blocked him… Carlton strived hard to be the best he could, and we salute you for your service not only in the service, but also to God and to your family.

Carlton leaves to cherish his memories, his lovely wife Karen, sons Carlton, Jr. “CJ”and Kitwan “Ka” Goldsboro-Woodard, five grandchildren, Lanae, Imani and Kween Klowi Porter, Kielle and Kamryn Woodard.
