Darcel Reid affectionately known as “Dot” was born to James and Ola Reid on December 3, 1953, in Margaret Hague Hospital Jersey City New Jersey.
Darcel received her early education in the Jersey City School System. Darcel relocated with her sister Venessa) to Staten Island New York, becoming a high school student and later a Mom. Many of her teenage years were spent with her best friend / baby sister; Vanessa. These two were like glue on a stick.
Darcel was baptized by Pastor Jones in her early adult years at Monumental Baptist Church.
Some probably didn’t know, Dot ‘s VOICE would sing out melodies like a Mockingbird. You could usually catch her singing a song of her favorite group “The Whispers”. As her best friend I (Linda) would ask, “Are you a Whisper today”? She would reply with laughter and say, “Yes’.
Darcel’s favorite holidays to celebrate were her birthday and Mother’s Day. Dot had to have a birthday cake and on Mother’s Day, it was a must to have an Mother’s day outfit…..She enjoyed reading her favorite books of poetry Psalm 27 and Psalm 91. Before fallen ill, Darcel exhibited having “Faith the size of a Mustard Seed on daily basis by holding on to God’s unchanging hand. Dot never gave up hope. She was one in keeping hope alive.
With steadfast commitment in providing for her family, Darcel successfully completed Nurses aid Preceptor Training at Jersey City Medical Center and received Certificate of Completion from Hudson County Community College for Pharmacy Technician. Darcel was employed by the Jersey City Medical Center as a Patient Technician and also employed by the Jersey City Board of Education in the Food Service Department.. After retirement Darcel was re-hired by the Jersey City Medical as Personal Sitter. With such a big heart and love for people, Dot dedicated many years caring for others, making sacrifices, no matter the weather or her personal feelings, walking to the Jersey City Medical Center to serve her fellowman was a must. Perseverance was key in her life. Dedication and perseverance were evident. If Dot was aware of a need, she made it happen. She might say “Oh boy here we go”, nonetheless, she came thru.. For this cause, her family and BFF were diligent in caring for her when needed the most.
Darcel Reid was preceded /Blessed Memories by her parents James, Sr. and Ola Reid, Brothers, James Reid, Jr, Gregory Reid, Darryl Reid, Dennis Reid, Damont Reid and Andre Reid. Sister Denise Reid. Daughters, Monique and Omara Reid, Grandsons Lawrence Reid and Rajon Reid.
Darcel will always be remembered and cherished by her loving children (4) children; Serena Porter, Shania, Dennis and Hassan Reid, (1) stepson; Omer Jackson, (1) brother; Garrett (Carol) Reid, (1) sister; Vanessa (Emmett) Capers, (10) grandsons Marquis, Davon, Christopher, Stephen and Dashawn Porter, Mykha Daniels, Raquan and Donta Lasane, Zamir and Michael Reid, (8) Granddaughters, Shaniece, Kemesha, Desha, Aysis, Faith, Miracle, Baby and Myra Reid, a host of great-grands, nieces, nephews, cousins and Best friend Linda Stokes.
