Christopher Bryant, Sr. Obituary

God has brought us here today to celebrate the life of Christopher “Chris” Dwayne Bryant, Sr. Chris peacefully transitioned into eternal rest on June 17, 2022. On March 20, 1972, a baby boy was born to Charles and Deborah Bryant in Jersey City, NJ. He was a loving and devoted husband, father, grandfather, son, brother, nephew, uncle, cousin, and friend. Everyone who came in contact with Chris instantly fell in love with his charming personality and great sense of humor. Chris was known to family as “Tutu” and his close fiends as “Mel-C”. He had a humble spirit, beautiful smile, and infectious laugh.

Chris received his formal education through the Jersey City Public Schools. He attended P.S. 9 elementary school and received his high school diploma from Ferris High School in 1990.

Chris developed a love and passion for sports at an early age. He enjoyed skate boarding, basketball, and football. In high school, Chris used his athletic abilities on his school sports teams and earned several awards. Chris was an avid sportsman, both on and off the field.

Chris worked at the Jersey City Housing Authority as a Building Maintenance Worker, as well as a Groundsman for over 20 years until his retirement. He also worked for the Jersey City Board of Education for a short period of time.
In 2003, he united in Holy Matrimony to LaShawn Smith-Bryant. And from this union, a son was born, Christopher Dwayne Bryant, Jr.

Chris was preceded in death by his grandparents, Arthur and Muriel Frasier, and Charlie and Ethel Bryant; and his nephew, Charles “Busta” Lamont Bryant, Jr.

Chris leaves to cherish his legacy and fond memories: his loving wife, LaShawn D. Smith-Bryant; his dear children, Chrishawna, Jada, Christopher, Kendra, Yolanda, Qualyn, and Laniyah; his adorable grand children, Raheem, Raegan, and Rowan; his parents, Deborah and Charles Bryant; his brother, Charles “Chuck” L. Bryant (Tewania); his sisters; Glenda Banks (Leon), Crystal McCord (Tarvis), Veronica Raines (Rodney), Lisa Keys, and Kimberly Battle (Jerry); his mother-in-law, Yvonne Long; his brother-in-law, Kelly Smith; his sisters-in-law, Tamara Smith, Quashanna Smith, and Montray Smith; a host of aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, and cousins; and his lifelong friends, James “Zoo” Bobitt, Damien Blackwell, TeeAndra Gallemore, Kurt Harris, and Joseph Kelly.

Chris had a heart of gold. He was generous, dependable, and caring. Chris will be remembered for his giving spirit and love for everyone he crossed paths with. And to Chris, thank you for blessing us all with your presence. Your sudden departure will leave a void in our hearts, but your memories will live with us forever. We are forever grateful to have had you in our lives. Farewell, and until we meet again. We love you.
