Bishop James D. Wright Sr., was born on April 14, 1945 in Whiteville, North Carolina, to the late Douglas and Allean Wright. He attended Whiteville Elementary School and then Central High School in Whiteville, North Carolina. At the age of 12, Bishop had his first experience with the Lord, “Calling on the name of Jesus,” at Saint Bethel Missionary Baptist Church in Whiteville, NC. In 1963, Bishop Wright met the cream of his coffee, Margaret A. McDonald. In 1965 he relocated to Jersey City, NJ and married Margaret A. Wright in 1965 and from this union they were blessed with six children Delphine, James Jr., Carmella, Patrina, plus they were blessed with the “twins” Wenda & Glinda.
In 1967 Bishop Wright & Pastor Wright accepted the Lord as their personal savior and became members of the Spradley Temple Church of God in Christ. In 1969, Bishop & Pastor Wright moved to their membership to Macedonia Redeemed Pentecostal Church of the Apostolic Faith, under the leadership of the late Elder D.D. Little & later the late Bishop Jessie Lewis. In 1970 Bishop Wright was ordain as a Deacon by Bishop Jessie Lewis. Bishop Wright worked faithfully with Deacon James McDuffie and Bishop Jessie Lewis. For many years he worked hard putting his church first, he made sure he did his job without instructions from anyone. As a dedicated Deacon he was faithful in maintaining the duties of the church. After Deacon McDuffie moved to Danville, Virginia to help establish the Macedonia .R.P.C # 2: Bishop Wright became Chairman of the Deacon Board. He served as the Sunday School Superintendent, he was dedicated to the Hospital Ministry. He visted the sick and the poor in their homes. Bishop Lewis always said “Deacon Wright is His Precious Deacon”.
In June of 1998 he was ordained and installed as Pastor of Macedonia Redeemed Pentecostal Church, by Dr. Benjamin Allen of Tabernacle Temple COGIC. During that same year Bishop Wright enrolled in Eastern Bible Institute, Irvington, NJ where Rev. Dr. Smith was the Dean. Bishop Wright desired the office of Bishop with much fasting, praying and the leading of the Lord on November 15, 2008 he was consecrated as Bishop in the Lord’s church. Bishop James Graham, Chief-Consecrator of Miracle Temple Churches of America. Besides being a good servant of the Lord, he is the definition of a GREAT PROVIDER. Bishop Wright was a firm believer on the scripture 2 Thessalonians 3:10 ”that if a man does not work, he should not eat”. Throughout his life Bishop Wright held many jobs. One of his most pride and joy was being a professional bus driver. No one could drive a bus like Bishop Wright. He worked for the Jersey City Public Schools Transporation Department for many years until retirement. He looked forward to seeing his little people every day.
Bishop Wright was preceded in death by his parents Douglas and Allean Wright, his beloved daughter: Carmella A. Wright, 10 siblings: Lillian Flowers, Cora M. Purdie, Eugene Wright, Elouise George, Purvis Wright, Mary E. Wright, Ralph H. Wright, Grenda L. McCoy, Sharon P. Wright and Donna J. Wright; mother-in-law: Margie Davis-Bell; and 3 brothers-in-law: Harvey George, Randy McDonald, and Ponce Deleon McDonald.
He leaves his legacy to cherish his many memories: his beloved wife of 58 years Overseer Margaret A. Wright, children: Delphine (Deacon Steven, Sr.) Harris, James D. Wright Jr., Pastors Patrina (Reyes) Torres, Pastors Wenda (Victor) McLean, and Glinda Brady. Bonus Son: Erie Watson, a close grandson and Pastor: Overseer Jarneill M. Frazier. 17 Grandchildren, 21 Great-Grandchildren, sister, Mother Verlene Oliver, brother, Elder Larice (Pansy) Wright, sisters-in-law, Linda Gail McDonald and Janell Wright, The entire Greater Macedonia Pentecostal Temple family and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends.
