Benjamin Allen III Obituary

Benjamin Joseph Allen, III

“Maestro Extraordinaire”

Benjamin Joseph Allen, III was born on October 15, 1969, to Benjamin Joseph Allen Jr. and Yvonne Blakely Allen.  He was married to Erika Wynn Allen.

Joseph was the grandson of the late Bishop William O. Blakely, Sr. and Lady Annie Mae Blakely. Gary, IN, and the late Rev. Dr. Benjamin Joseph Allen Sr. and Mother Laura Allen, Jersey City, NJ.

Joseph was born with remarkable musical abilities.  At the early age of 3 years old, Joseph began playing the piano and later the drums. From the piano, Joseph ventured into playing the organ.   He later began to write songs and give piano lessons.  Joseph accepted the Lord in his youth and was filled with the Holy Ghost with the evidence of speaking in other tongues. The Lord used Joseph mightily under the anointing of the Holy Spirit.  And despite Joseph’s hardships, one thing that can never be denied, he was a gifted, anointed and awe-inspiring musician and he used it to bless others. Joseph always had a smile on his face when playing before the Lord, and at times would leave the organ begin to dance in the Spirit.

After the loss of his limb, Joseph developed the skill of playing from the middle of the keyboard, which emitted the full sound of one playing with two hands. Joseph also used his feet on the pedals as one would use their hands on the keyboard. Joseph never allowed his handicap to deter him from the calling on his life.

.Joseph leaves to treasure a lot of fond church memories. One pastor commented after hearing Joseph play his organ, “We have to get this organ fixed because it never sound that good before.”. Also, one of the former elderly members of Peace Temple once said, “Joseph is the only musician that can make me dance.” Joseph was a very warm, hospitable, well-mannered and loving person who enjoyed sharing stories, talking about the good ole days, having a good hearty laugh and a large plate of food.

Joseph loved his family and leaves to cherish his memories, his Beautiful and Loving wife Erika; six children: Benjamin, Octavia, Dorcas, Jairus, Solomon and Hannah; 5 grandchildren: Andrea, David, Christian, Chanel and Carter.  His wonderful devoted parents, Elder Benjamin Joseph Allen, Jr. & Yvonne; (3) sisters, Jaundalyn-Allen Higgins (Parnell), Rehanna & Ranelle Allen; (2) nieces & 1 nephew: Joy, Jorden and Chandler Godwin; and great niece Laila Eckwood;  (3) sister-in-law’s: Vanessa Wynn; Latasha Wynn, Latasha Harris (Clarence); 4 brother-in-law’s: Lee & Dwayne Wynn, Willie Wynn Jr. and Chubasco Reeves; Loving godmother, Carmen Smith, godsister Portia Longobardi, longtime childhood friend Robert Miller and a host of aunts, uncles, cousins, friends and church family.
