On Wednesday, December 21, 2022, GOD dispatched his heavenly angels to earth to carry her soul to
Glory. Barbara readily heard his call and took flight to begin her heavenly rest with Our LORD and Savior,
Jesus Christ.
Barbara attended A Harry Moore School, in Jersey City, NJ where she graduated and enrolled at St. Peter’s
College to further her education. In 2009, she enrolled in Brookdale Community College, where she
enrolled in Music and Computer courses. She was always eager to learn. Barbara attended Gospel Temple
Church of God In Christ, where she accepted the lord as her personal savior at a very early age. It is certain
because of her obedience and belief in God that she was a true walking medical miracle. While attending
Gospel Temple, Sis. Spann(then Barbara Pelzer) met the late Isaac Spann and was married to him in 1967.
Through this union 9 children were born.
Barbara worked as a quality control inspector at Maxwell House for many years until she sustained a
debilitating injury. At the time, only having 4 young girls, Barbara and her husband decided to move from
Jersey City to Keyport, NJ. It is there her other 5 children were born. While being a devoted mother and
wife, she continued to be a great friend and help to neighbors, parishioners of several church, and anyone
who came in contact with her. To know Barbara, is to know what a true angel on earth is. She could pray
for and with you to see the good in all things. Her smile would brighten every day and her spirit would
uplift many. While in Keyport, Barbara also worked as a bus assistant for Milu Bus Service in Cliffwood, NJ
to then take employment as a tax preparer for Jackson and Hewitt. She was also a trained pianist at an
early age, by the late Mrs. Ballot. Barbara utilized her beautiful gift and played piano for Gospel Temple
(COGIC) in Jersey City, NJ, Macedonia (COGIC) in Old Bridge, NJ, St. James in Perth Amboy, NJ, and Holy
Trinity in Matawan, NJ.
Sis. Spann was a blessing to anyone who came in contact with her. To know her was to love her. Having
9 children, her life was very busy, yet she found a way to show each and everyone of them love and be
there whenever they needed her. She served as a mother to many of her children’s friends who adored
her so much. Sis. Spann will be missed by many and adored by all. One of her favorite scriptures were
Psalms 34, “ I will bless the Lord at all times: his praise shall continually be in my mouth.”
Barbara was preceded in death by her father, Abraham Fairnot and her mother Bertie Terry, her step
father Louis Wright, and Booker Terry.
