Yvonne Johnson-Sanders Obituary

Yvonne Sanders affectionately known as “Mesa” was born on February 21, 1970, in Jersey City, NJ to Rosa Hightower and Larry Johnson. On Wednesday, September 18, 2019, in Jersey City, NJ she made her transition from her earthly body and went to live on with her Heavenly Father.

Yvonne received her formal education at PS# 29, PS# 41, and Henry Snyder High School in Jersey City, NJ. Full of determination, Yvonne entered the work force at just 15 years old at Fabco Shoe Store in Jersey City. From there she continued on to work for over 10 years in Newport Center Mall in Jersey City, NJ, and in Secaucus, NJ in various Customer Service and Retail Management positions. She also worked for the United States Postal Service before relocating to Forest Park, GA in 2002 where she became Store Manager at HMS Host in the Atlanta Jackson-Hartsfield Airport.

Yvonne was always so full of life and positivity. She was always the person you wanted to call for advice or a listening ear. If she didn’t know how to help, she wouldn’t stop until she found a way to help or find someone to help. Her loving, caring and beautiful spirit was always felt just in her smile or the glow in her eyes. Family meant everything to Yvonne. She made sure to always reach out just to “hear ya voice”. She wanted to make sure everyone in her life was ok, even when she wasn’t feeling at her best. Her kindness and generosity was shown to everyone she encountered. If she had it to give; she gave it. Even if it was her last. Yvonne’s simple pleasure was to laugh and enjoy time talking with family and friends. She traveled with an abundance of joy and a heart of gold. She truly enjoyed shopping. She made sure she was always matching and looking sharp wherever she was going. But her true passion was playing BINGO. She got so much joy from what she called “going to work”. She got to spend time with her friends and her mother at her second job. She’d always say, “Don’t call my phone when I’m at work”. Yvonne dedicated the last 25 years of her life to her son, Deon. Every decision, every concern, every consideration, every hard day, every day she may have wanted to stop fighting; it was all for Deon. He kept her going. This mother & son bond can never be broken. She loved him with all of her heart and soul and will forever watch over and guide him in life.

Yvonne leaves to cherish her precious memories to her mother and father Rosa and Larry Johnson. Loving Son; Deon Jermaine Sanders (Aaliyah Serrano). Special Son; Marcus Mickens. Grandson; Mekhi Mickens. Sisters; Yolanda Johnson (Alvis Rivera), Sarena Johnson. Brothers; James Johnson (Pamela Benjamin), Leon Johnson (Renee Anderson), Larry Johnson Jr (Elizabeth Pimentel-Johnson). Special Daughter; LaTasha Mickens. She is survived by loving nieces and nephews; Tiara, TyAsia, Tariq, Tyrese, Eleeze, Sasha, Shyteonna, Shytavion, Cedronica, Miguel and Roberto. A host of Aunts, Uncles, & very close Cousins who also loved her like a daughter and sister. Many more relatives, special friends, caregivers, her Arlington Ave extended family, her Forest Park, GA extended family, and anyone who’s heart she’s ever touched.

Yvonne was preceded in death by her maternal Grandparents; Ida Jefferson, and Eddie Hightower. Paternal Grandparents; Gussie Mae and Moses Johnson. Her estranged husband Bobby Lee Sanders Jr.

Yvonne was loved by so many and will be deeply missed. We will forever treasure the time and memories we’ve shared. We thank God for having blessed us with someone so special.
