Saleem Shaheed "CHOZN" Lewis

Saleem Shaheed Lewis better known as “CHOZN” was born on November 5, 1978 in Jersey City, New Jersey to Bridget Lewis and Yusef  Bahir  Id-deen. He lived up the meaning of his name, which meant (Saleem) one who maintains a peaceful state of mind not easily upset. (Shaheed)  witness bearer one who upholds the first pillow of faith. He transitioned peacefully on August 30, 2019 at Jersey City Medical Center.

He attended various elementary schools in Jersey City. He graduated from James J. Ferris High School, and later furthered his education at Hudson Community College and New Jersey City University, where he studied Business and English. He was a dedicated employee of Clover Health.

Saleem was a faithful member of A Better Life Ministry under the leadership of Pastor  Jevah Richardson. Most of his ministry work as a teenager to adulthood was done under the tutelage of Overseer Roderick Allen and The True Vine Church of Jesus Inc.   Saleem was a prayer intercessor; alter worker, and a phenomenal worship leader. He had a unique way of ministering to people from all walks of life and cultural backgrounds through the word of God and through song.

He is preceded in death by his maternal grandfather Wilbert Paige, his aunt Myra Paige and uncle Darryl Paige. His paternal grandparents Delores Jordan, Joe L Lewis, aunt  Alma Jordan, uncle Paul Lewis

Saleem leaves to cherish his memories his loving parents, Bridget Lewis (Greggory Jones), Yusef Bahir Id-Deen (Jacqueline Id-Deen), his loving grandmother Annie Dasher, his lovely godchildren Makayla Matthews and Joy Paige, his loving siblings Fatimah Lewis, Joseph Lewis, Nazirah Lewis, Fuquan Lewis, Lisa Clinton, and Veleria Thomas. He also leaves behind a host of aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, and cousins.

Saleem also had host of friends who were extremely loving and supportive and were there to the very end.
