Chatten Battle

Chatten Battle {Charles} was born November 26, 1941 to the late David and Gladys Battle in Lenior County, NC. Charles grow up in Kinston ,NC until he moved to New Jersey at the age of 17.

Charles Departed this life on January 20, 2019 at 7:40 am at Clara Mass Medical Center Belleville, NJ.

Charles worked as a salesman and a truck driver before he became a fulltime mechanic. He has worked as a mechanic for over 50 years until his illness prevented him from doing what he loved so much.     

Charles was one of the best mechanics in town. Everyone knew him. He always had a smile on his face. If you came by the shop on Leslie and Beverley you could get your car fix, laugh and have a good time with him. Charles always had a story for you that would make you laugh so hard. People would just stop through just to see him even if they wasn’t getting their car fix. He had a heart of gold. He also didn’t have a filter!!! He will tell you just how he felt about what he didn’t like. You couldn’t help to but love him.

Charles is proceeded in death by 6 brothers, Earl Lee Battle, Clem Battle, Hershadeen Battle, David Battle Jr., Willie Battle, and Daniel Battle, 2 sisters Nellie Brock and Dora Mae Battle.

Charles leaves to mourn his wife Fannie Phillips, and a Special friend Sarah Simms, 5 daughters Bridget Johnson, Lisa Johnson, Thelma Johnson, Tracy Venable, and Sunatra Phillips, 2 sons Andrew Johnson, and Corey Scott, 1 god daughter Odesar Williams {Pumpkin}, 2 God sons Mark Harris and Hakim Burton. Along with 22 grand children and a host of great grand children, nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. Most of all his best friend for over 50 years Sonny Williams.
