Doris Dillard

February 5, 1936 ~ February 10, 2017 (age 81) 81 Years Old

Doris C. “Honey” Dillard was born February 3, 1936 in Perth Amboy, N.J. to the late Doris C. and James C. Dillard. She was the fifth child of this union.

            Doris was a long-time resident of Perth Amboy, N.J. before moving to Lakeland Florida on November 3, 2007 until she recently relocated back to her home town, Perth Amboy, New Jersey.

Doris was married to the late Joseph L. Jones on August 22, 1952 and from that union five girls was born; Sylvia, Sondra “Vicki”, Joanne, Doris “Dore” and Eileen “Wendy”. After the divorce she met Leroy Wells and from that union Marcy was born. Doris was a avid reader, a lover of books. As a child she would stay indoors because she would rather read than play outdoors. As an adult she always had a book reading. Doris read any and everything that sat before her.

Doris enjoyed reading and education so much she went back to school at Rutgers University where  she earned her master’s degree in education while raising her girls and working full-time. Upon graduation she became employed  with M.C.E.O.C as a community director. She later became employed with Day Care 100 as director for many years. Doris then went north and was hired as a director of Newark Day Care center. In 1983 she left the education field and became employed by margaritten as an underwriter until her early retirement in 1998.

Doris was baptized dedicated Jehovah Witness for over 60 years. She became a spiritual mother to many who were encouraged by her example of faith and loved her dearly.

Doris was known as “Honey” by ALL. She is predeceased by her older siblings; Vivian Dillard-Perry, Audrey Burns-Jackson of Jackson Funeral Residence of Jersey City, NJ, Jordan Anthony Dillard, Earnest James Dillard, Charles Edward Williams and her baby sister Geraldine “Patricia” Dillard. Her two daughters; Sondra “Vicki” Harrison and Doris “Dore” Jones.

She has left to cherish her memories her brother Howard L. G. Dillard(Emma) of hurt, Virginia. Her daughters Sylvia Jones-Gibbs(Dwight) of Perth Amboy, Jo’Anne Jones, Eileen “Wendy” Jones. Marcy Jones and her (10) grand children and (17) great-grand children.
